Many organizations and individuals have different reasons to solicit and accumulate money or gifts in-kind. Politicians make solicitation to businessman to collect funds for use in political campaign. Not-for-profit organization’s primary means of revenue is by soliciting money from other organizations and private individuals. Religious organizations obtain funding through donations made by parishioners and from the business societies.
Though public institutions are government-funded, many of the institutions obtain funds from the public. Many organizations have to obtain monetary resources to cover the costs and expenses in operating their respective activities and in meeting their objectives. The implementation of their goals as well as the acquisition of needed supplies can be sourced through fundraising.
Fundraising refers to the efforts made by organizations and individuals in accumulating the needed financial resources for the realization of objectives. It is sometimes referred to the act of soliciting from investors or from for-profit enterprises.
Organizations that need fundraising include religious organizations, research organizations, foundations that recognize achievements and grant merit awards, public broadcasting and political campaigns.
Non-profit organizations may employ the service of professional fundraisers or may use strategies to raise funds.
There are various fundraising companies that exist. They may serve a particular kind of charitable organizations for a certain fee. Also, there are individuals that work as fundraising consultants. These organizations and individuals may provide services or efforts to raise funds in behalf of the non-profit organizations they represent.
A fundraiser can also refer to a campaign or event which purpose is to raise funds for a cause. There are different kinds of fundraising events and campaigns. Examples are benefit concerts, campaign dinner, capital campaign, membership campaign, sporting events, sponsored walk, services and auctions.
A for profit organization may use celebrities in generating funds through product selling or may employ the help of volunteer workers in accelerating the sale of its products.
The involvement of celebrities in a kind of fundraising event can potentially generate more funds. There are many celebrities that use their name and their status to sell products with fixed price or bid price and in which a fraction or the whole amount of the proceeds of the sale is distributed to a charitable organization or to the society that needs immediate help.
Funds can also be raised through online means. There are many websites that use ways to generate funds. Others may use pay per click links. Others may provide information on websites about upcoming events such as concert for a cause while other sites may feature products for sale or auction with information about the destination of the sales proceeds.
Different non-profit organizations raise funds for different purposes. The purposes of fundraising are usually disclosed for the benefit of investors and the general public. Organizations may provide documents which can serve as evidences of the existing transactions in the allocation of the raised funds to investors.
Organizations can also receive funding from a financial endowment. The endowment is a donation in the form of money or property which is invested to generate yearly return. In this way, non-profit institutions can be able to raise funds from receiving the annual return of investment. The organization that employs this strategy may or may not longer use other means to raise funds.
Fundraising is an activity where it involves an established organization or a group of individuals. Many use different tactics to raise funds to attain a desired outcome. The means may be legal or illegal. There may be certain restrictions in the organization of fundraising events. Other organizations may not be allowed to fundraise. There may also be tax incentives when there are contributions made to charitable organizations that use the contributions for raising funds.
It is definitely rewarding to make contributions to organizations that initiate fundraising events for a good cause. However, it is also important to ascertain the legitimacy of the fundraising event.
